It’s the Genre Thing!

It seems like I hit the nail on the head yesterday. Broken Bonds is not flowing because I’m writing out of my genre. I struggled again this morning to sit down and write. Then, as an experiment I started on a new story, just to see where it would go.

Well, it went, and how! I’ve written more words of the new story today than I have of Broken Bonds in the last week and a half. It flowed so smoothly that I’ve decided to put BB aside for the moment and make ‘As Yet Untitled’ my second novel.

That’s not to say I’m going to abandon BB permanently. But I do need to get some words on the page before I lose confidence in my ability to tell a story.

Now for the problem. The new book is YA again, which is fine. But, it also has a strong martial arts flavour. Now, in therory, that shouldn’t be a problem. After all, they do say write what you know.

The issue I have is that I didn’t want to jump into a cozy little box with young adult and martial arts stamped all over it this early in my novel writing career. I thought I’d test the waters a bit and try a few different styles first.

Oh well, maybe that is not to be. I’ll keep going with this one and see where it takes me. So far I have a couple of strong characters and a rather tense opening. Other than that, I have no idea where this one is going.

Just the way I like it:)
