I think I’ve finally found the kick in the pants I need to get me writing regularly again. Well, it’s not really a kick in the pants, it’s more like a bit of encouragement.
I’ve been reading novelist Holly Lisle’s newsletter for a while now and, just as I was looking for the motivation to get stuck into Yantsu, I got a newsletter from Holly telling me about her Write a Book With Me project.
Briefly, Holly is writing her current novel and every evening she posts her daily word count on her blog and encourages people taking part to do the same in the comments of the current post.
If you’re writing your own book, or interested in starting one, you can check out Holly’s blog, A Pocket Full of Words and join in. The aim is to make writing fun again.
Yesterday I managed an embarrassing 165 words but so far today I’m doing a bit better. I will post on Holly’s blog as soon as I finish writing for the day. The great thing about this is that I’m actually motivated to write every day.
I’m getting to know my characters all over again and they’re finally speaking to me. I went through a long stage thinking I’d never get back into this book but it’s all coming right now.
I’ll definitely be trying to match Holly’s word count every day and I may even push myself to reach my own (probably unrealistic) target of an extra 10 000 by the end of next week.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
