A Reprieve for Sanchin

Well, I’m feeling a bit more confident about my writing today. I’ve had some very encouraging comments about Sanchin via email and on the Harper Collins Authonomy site. I read over a bit of it earlier today and I think the more simplistic style I used actually suits the story, so I’ve decided against a rewrite. That’s probably a good thing because Broken Bonds is really beginning to gather momentum. I’m at that stage where I get ratty if anything, […]

Fears and Frustrations

Today has been one of those odd days. Frustrating, in that I’ve had no time to write, and yet the need for a breather reared its ugly head in the form of a major crisis of confidence. After reading excerpts of work by several other writers, I was struck by a strong urge to trash everything I’ve written to date and take up tiddlywinks. I know different writing styles appeal to different people but I feel that, with Sanchin, I […]

Seven Chapters of Sanchin – Free to Read

Well, I haven’t had much time to write today. I’ve had a lot going on, so I’ll keep this short and see how much writing I can get done tonight. I’ve had some very encouraging feedback for the first chapter of Broken Bonds so I’m really keen to write more. Thank you to all of you who took the time to read it and fill in the little form. It’s greatly appreciated. Anyway, this post was supposed to be an […]

Broken Bonds – The Second Novel

Broken Bonds is the working title of my second novel. I’m not going to give away too many details at this stage because the plot is still very much a work in progress. My characters tend to run off on their own little missions and change my original plots as I go along anyway, so there is a lot of room for change. Well, I have an interview tomorrow and the house is a tip so I have to abandon […]

How Much Is Too Much?

Okay, so I’ve finished editing Sanchin. I must have read the whole novel about ten times, tweaking a bit of dialogue here and a comma or two there. I’ve checked the formatting and I’m happy – I think! How do you know when it’s time to stop? I know the story so well now I can almost tell it word for word without referring to the text and yet I’m still not sure it can’t be improved upon. Well, it’s […]

A New Cover and Some More Editing Avoidance

Well, yesterday I said I was still being picky about the cover and today I scrapped the old one. I still think it’s probably no more than an excuse to avoid the inevitable as I’ve done no editing at all so far today. The fact that I got less than two hours sleep last night isn’t helping. I feel like a zombie today and I’m having difficulty seeing the words on the page, never mind actually working out whether they […]

Learning The Game

You would think that blogging would be easy for a writer, but I find it rather difficult. Maybe it’s because I’m not comfortable writing about myself and what I’m doing. So, what am I doing? At the moment I’m frantically editing the final draft of Sanchin, in the hope it will be out by mid-April. The cover art is done but I’m still being picky about it, though I think that’s just an excuse to avoid the editing. Self-editing is […]
